The name comes from the fact that the AC is composed of components split into the outdoor and indoor units. Installation is easier, less expensive, and quicker than most other options of air conditioning. The other popular air conditioning options, which is mostly used for conditioning single rooms is the portable AC. This is a non-window-based system that is placed on the flow near the window of a room. All the components of the portable A/C unit are sealed in a single box and the unit has a system of hoses that carry transfer air in and out of the living space. Two main variants of portable air conditioners exist, which include the single hose and the dual hose portable ACs. The advantage with this type of system is that you can cool single rooms individually, which would mean savings in your air conditioning bills.
It is also less expensive to purchase and install in general, since installation may not require a professional HVAC technician or ductwork at all. It is also convenient in that you can carry it from one room to another for cooling. However, purchasing portable AC units for every room in your home or commercial building can be rather a cumbersome and expensive task, both in terms of energy bills and purchase costs.
